ArchivalResource

JPL Director's Advisory Council for Women Recording Collection, 1981-1994, [sound recording].

The collection includes 15 videotape recordings, two in VHS format, and 13 in the U-matic format dated 1981-1991, and 81 audio cassettes dated 1990-1994. They contain ACW-sponsored noontime seminars. The seminars addressed a variety of issues of interest to women such as health, employee benefits, policies related to maternity leave, and women scientists at JPL. The seminars attempted to improve technical skills, increase knowledge, point out managerial opportunities, increase participation in the space program, and increase awareness of social and political issues in a male-oriented organization. The recordings were produced by the JPL Audiovisual Services Department and presumably returned to the ACW for its use and distribution. The majority of recordings contain the date of creation, a title, names of participants, the number of tapes in a program, format, and running times in hours/minutes. Wherever information on the label was incomplete, ACW Newsletters, a self-indexing periodical located at the Archives, were used to derive description information. Both videotapes and audiotapes are arranged in ascending numerical order using AVC identification numbers previously assigned by the JPL Audiovisual Communications section.
